South Staffordshire College would like to express thanks to local business Carnell for allowing staff to volunteer their time and expertise at our Rodbaston Animal Zone, based at Rodbaston College.

Staff from the Penkridge based firm have been volunteering again over the past four weeks to support the Animal Zone team with the completion of various construction projects such as improving animal enclosures and enhancing the accessibility of paths around the Animal Zone, which will make visiting and navigating the Animal Zone much easier for wheelchair users, people with mobility issues and visitors with pushchairs.

Carnell has a multi-skilled workforce who have expertise in civil engineering, drainage, technology, lighting, and safety barrier systems. The company has a strong focus and commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and regularly supports the local community.

Kim Vaughan, Assistant Principal for Learner Services at South Staffordshire College said ‘We would like to thank our neighbours at Carnell for volunteering at our Animal Zone again and in particular with helping improve the accessibility of our paths for wheelchair users and those with mobility issues”. They make such a difference and work so hard, setting a great example to our students.

Steve Penn, Business Improvement Manager at Carnell said “We have carried out several initiatives for South Staffordshire College since undertaking a Community Wants and Needs Assessment of the area around our Penkridge office 18 months ago. We used our construction expertise to carry out the path remediation work around Rodbaston Animal Zone. This will help keep this fascinating local attraction accessible to everyone.”
