  • Is this course for you?

Are you passionate about esports and eager to turn that passion into a thriving career? If you dream of working in one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, this Foundation Degree in Esports could be the perfect fit for you.

This course is designed for individuals who want to go beyond playing games and dive into the professional world that powers the esports ecosystem. Whether you’re drawn to the creative or technical aspects of esports, this programme offers a well-rounded education to prepare you for a range of roles in the industry.

Our Foundation Degree course through the University of Staffordshire is a FdA qualification equivalent of both Level 4 and 5. The course is designed to progress and enhance the skills and techniques previously studied from a Level 3 esports/creative media course to prepare you for either further study at Level 6, or in readiness for your employment in the digital industry.

The course is delivered over 2 years with Year 1 being the Cert HE followed by the FdA in Year 2. When you have completed the FdA in Esports, you will have the option of moving into employment or completing a top-up year, to gain a full bachelor’s degree, such as through the University of Staffordshire.

On successful completion of the FdA Esports award, students will be awarded a University of Staffordshire degree.

This course is due to start in September 2025, subject to validation.

  • Required qualifications

Students should have previously studied a Level 3 esports/creative media course, such as getting a Merit in a UAL course, or MMP in a BTEC course. If you have not achieved these grades your applications are still welcome but will be subject to an interview and portfolio check. Students should also have GCSE English and maths at grade 9-4 (A*-C).

We welcome applications from mature students without these qualifications but with relevant esports/creative media experience.

  • What skills will I develop?

Throughout the course, you’ll develop practical skills and knowledge in areas critical to the esports landscape. You’ll explore creation in the digital industry, including content production tailored to gaming audiences. Gain hands-on experience in live studio broadcasting, mastering the art of streaming and live production. Learn the ins and outs of events management, planning and executing live tournaments and community events.

Collaboration is at the heart of esports, so we’ll focus on multidisciplinary teamwork, teaching you to work effectively with professionals across various fields. You’ll also delve into community management, learning how to grow and nurture online communities, and marketing, equipping you with the tools to promote brands, events, and content to global audiences.

By the end of this course, you’ll have a diverse skill set, a portfolio of industry-standard work, and the confidence to succeed in roles like event coordinator, content creator, broadcast producer, or community manager.
