Early Years

Early years practitioners enjoy working with children, they are nurturing and caring. The industry needs skilled, enthusiastic people with a passion to nurture children, support their early learning and deliver exciting opportunities that enable them to explore and develop.

Our vocationally trained, highly skilled tutors will deliver fun and interactive sessions using a variety of assessment methods to evidence knowledge and understanding in a portfolio.

As well as achieving a nationally recognised qualification, you will study English and maths, and have the opportunity for extensive work experience to develop your skills as a practitioner.

You could also achieve a first aid and food safety qualification.

You will be required to purchase uniform for your work placement and undertake a DBS check.

Key information

There are a range of job opportunities in the early years sector, with more parents going back to work, there has never been more demand for childcare.

Early Years Practitioner, Early Years Educator, Early Years Teacher, Playworker or Nursery manager.

Average salary for working as practitioner is £16,000 per year. With experience and expertise, you could achieve salaries of £22,000 to £30,000. Roles in this bracket will include supervisory or management duties.

Apprenticeships

We offer both the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship and the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship. As an apprentice you will work alongside experienced, skilled staff, you will gain job-specific skills and training, you will earn a wage and get holiday pay whilst you train.

Higher Education

Some of our level 3 Early Years learners choose to stay on with us after college to complete our Foundation Degree in Education (Early Childhood Studies) at Lichfield College. This two and a half year course is accredited by Staffordshire University and is also open to external applicants.
