Welcome to our new state-of-the-art gaming facilities at Lichfield College!
We have dedicated specialist zones for each pathway that we offer including Games Production, Esports, Games Art and Animation, and Higher Education.
The Games Hub is home to over 100 high-end gaming PCs as well as industry-standard hardware including ergonomic gaming chairs, headsets, monitors, keyboards, mice, cameras, and microphones.
You will be given access to industry-relevant software during your time with us such as Unreal Engine and Blender, as well as the full Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
There is also a communal production space with staging, lighting, and a green screen, and a stream room with professional streaming equipment.
Our college Esports teams compete against other schools and colleges across the UK in the British Esports Student Champs.
Teams are selected through trials at the start of each academic year and are open to all gaming students at the college.
Games played competitively include Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and VALORANT.
Tournament matches are streamed live on Wednesday afternoons on the college’s Twitch channel.
Team merchandise is available for students to purchase, including hoodies and jerseys that can be customised with your gamertag.

As well as gaining a Distinction in Level 3 Games Art and Animation, Veronica competed in the 3D Digital Game Art category of WorldSkills UK during her time with us. After winning the West Midlands region, she took part in the National Final where she won silver. Vera said: “My time at college studying Games Art and Animation has been brilliant! It's the best decision I've ever made!”

The gaming industry is booming and is expected to keep growing due to emerging technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual reality, and the way that people now consume content. As a result, the demand for gaming jobs has never been greater, and the industry requires jobs from a multitude of creative and digital sectors.
In the UK, the gaming industry is larger than the UK’s film and music industries combined, with the UK also being the largest video games development hub in Europe.
When undertaking one of our Games or Esports courses, you will be introduced to all different aspects of the gaming industry. These include audio production and editing, video production and editing, graphic design principles, as well as fundamental game engine concepts and research skills. The gaming industry encompasses all of these areas, so it is important that you are exposed to them while studying.
At Lichfield College, we offer Higher Education progression routes in Computer Games Design, Esports, and Games Art. Our Foundation Degrees are accredited by our partner university, the University of Staffordshire, who have been ranked as the top university in the UK for games.
These courses are designed to progress and enhance the skills previously studied on a Level 3 course, to either prepare you for further study at Level 6 or in readiness for your employment in the gaming industry.
