October 2026

Daisy Trainor plumbing apprentice receiving her skills development award at the student celebration event

A South Staffordshire College apprentice has been recognised for her outstanding progress and commitment after receiving a Skills Development Award at the college’s annual Student Celebration event.

Daisy Trainor, who is studying a Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing & Domestic Heating apprenticeship, was presented with the award in recognition of the significant development she has shown both in college and in the workplace over the past year.

As part of her apprenticeship working at Bromford, Daisy works on plumbing and heating installations, fitting pipework, boilers and cylinders, replacing radiators, and helping to ensure customers have safe and comfortable homes.

Speaking about her apprenticeship, Daisy said, “I chose this career path because I wanted to go into the trades and take up a more practical, hands-on career. I enjoy the customer-facing side of it and interacting with different people every day. In the future, I’d like to start my own business, finding my own jobs and gaining qualifications in other trades. I’d also love to renovate properties myself and hopefully flip houses to sell or rent out. I felt so proud of myself to have won this award. It made me feel like all the work I put in over the year had paid off, and I felt grateful to have been recognised for it. Thanks to my tutor Will and my boss Kev, I think I’ve really come on over the last year, and I can’t wait to keep learning more over the next two years of my apprenticeship.”

Daisy also praised the college’s Student Celebration event, which recognises the achievements of learners from across South Staffordshire College. She added, “I really enjoyed the Student Celebration event. It was lovely to see everybody from all the different courses across South Staffordshire College and celebrate people’s achievements. It was a great way to recognise everyone’s success and was organised really well.”

Will Gilbert, Apprenticeship Practitioner for Plumbing at South Staffordshire College, who nominated Daisy for the award said, “I nominated Daisy for this award because I have seen a significant improvement in her skills and confidence in the workplace. Every time I visit her, she has taken on more responsibility and continues to develop within her role. She has become an important and valued member of her team, demonstrating commitment and professionalism. Daisy also maintains a positive attitude at college, consistently striving to do her best and achieve her goals.”

Daisy’s employer, Kevin Cortin at Bromford said, “Daisy has improved a lot during her apprenticeship at Bromford and works well with the whole team. I was so proud to see her win her award with the college. I think it’s important for companies to hire apprentices it gets young people into the workforce and is one of the best ways to learn a trade.”

South Staffordshire College would like to congratulate all apprentices who received awards across a range of apprenticeship programmes, including Plumbing, Veterinary Nursing, Engineering and Electrical.

The college would also like to thank employers for their ongoing support, encouragement and commitment to developing future talent through apprenticeships.
