Exams

Here you will find everything you need to know about exams and results at South Staffordshire College. If there’s anything you are still unsure of after reading this page, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

  • On the exam day

    Before your exam day, make sure that you know:

    The date, time and room the exam will be held in. This will be emailed to your college and personal email addresses. Please note your information may be different to your friends, so please make sure you follow the information on your email and not your friends or classmates.

    What you will need to bring to your exams:

    • Student ID card
    • Black pens
    • Appropriate equipment such as a ruler, protractor, calculator for relevant exams where these items are permitted
    • If you are bringing your equipment in a pencil case, please note the pencil case must be clear
    • If you wish to bring water in to the exam, it should be in a clear water bottle with all labels removed

    The exam office does not have spare equipment to give out in exams it is your responsibility to bring your own.

    What you cannot take into exams:

    • Any type of phone / electronic device
    • Revision notes
    • Any type of watch (including analogue, digital and smart watches)

    Other important information:

    • Listen carefully to the invigilator’s instructions. If you are unsure of anything, put up your hand and wait for the invigilator to come to you.
    • Make sure the details on your log in sheet or exam answer booklet relate to you and your exam.
    • If you need to use the toilet or feel unwell, let the invigilator know and your will be escorted from the exam room.
    • Exam conditions start as soon as you enter the exam room. Make sure you stay silent, talking to another learner could result in you being disqualified from all exams.
    • If you have any questions or concerns about the exam, let the invigilator know immediately. Most issues can be resolved while you’re in the exam room. It’s not always as simple to fix problems after you have left the exam room.
  • Final results, certificates & replacement certificates

    Final Results

    • Your statement of results will be sent to your college email address and the personal email address we have on record for you.
    • Level 3 Technical and Level 3 NQF/RQF statements of results will be issued to your college and personal email address on Thursday 15th August 2024.
    • GCSE results, level 2 Technical and all other statements of results will be issued to your college and personal email address on Thursday 22nd August 2024.
    • All other results will be issued to you by your tutor before you leave college.

    Certificates

    It’s really important to keep your certificates safe, they are not just pieces of paper. Your certificates are evidence of your knowledge and skills, making them essential for showcasing your expertise to future employers or training providers.

    • Full time learners – all certificates will be available to collect from the exams office from Monday 2nd December 2024. Certificates will be kept for 12 months and certificates not collected by 2nd December 2025 will be destroyed in line with GDPR. You will then need to contact the exam board and pay for a replacement. Certificates for academic year 2022/2023 will be available to collect until 4th December 2024.
    • Part time day & evening learners – your certificates will be posted to the home address we have recorded for you on the system. It is your responsibility to update your address with college if you move.
    • Apprentices – Your individual qualification certificates will be posted to your home address after you have passed your EPA. Depending on which awarding body you’re with, your overall EPA certificate will either be sent to your home address or directly to your employer.

    Replacement Certificates

    College do not keep copies of certificates.  If you require replacement certificates you will need to contact the awarding body directly for replacements.

    If you studied with us within the last 7 years we may be able to help you identify which exam boards issued your certificates.  If you studied with us more than 7 years ago, we will not have any information as we only hold student data for 7 years, in line with GDPR regulations.

    Here you’ll find all the important details about the rules and regulations that govern all exams.  This information comes from JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications), who are responsible for overseeing exams across all exam boards.

    It’s worth taking some time to read and fully understand the information provided. Remember, we’re here to help, so if you have any questions or need clarification on anything, don’t hesitate to reach out to the exams team at the college location you study at.

    Remember not following these regulations could lead you to being disqualified and not being able to pass your course.
