Lewis Perry named people’s champion in City & Guilds Heritage competition

South Staffordshire College is celebrating Level 2 carpentry apprentice, Lewis Perry, who has been crowned the People’s Champion of the prestigious City & Guilds Heritage Competition.

The People’s Champion title celebrates the apprentice who captured the hearts of the public, and Lewis’s work stood out for its exceptional quality, authenticity and the story it told about traditional skills in a modern context. His achievement highlights not only technical excellence, but also the power of heritage craft to inspire and engage wider audiences.

The City & Guilds Heritage Competition showcases the very best emerging talent across traditional and heritage crafts, championing the skills that protect and preserve the UK’s cultural legacy. Lewis’s success reflects the growing public appreciation for these disciplines and the importance of investing in the next generation of skilled makers.

Speaking about the award, Lewis said: “I’m incredibly proud to be named People’s Champion. To know that my work connected with so many people means a great deal, and I’m grateful for all the support and encouragement throughout the competition.”
