  • Is this course for you?

The course is an introduction to the linocut where you will have the opportunity to produce a basic mono print followed by a more challenging three-colour reduction print. As relief printing, linocut involves cutting away areas of the design you do not want to ink up and print.

  • Required qualifications

No qualifications or experienced needed but more experienced learners will have the opportunity to develop their skills further.

  • What skills will I develop?

You will learn how to produce a reduction linocut print by using only one linoleum block, where after each colour you print you remove additional lino for your next colour.

  • Careers

On completion of the course you can continue to the next level or diversify onto related art subjects like pottery and sculpture or progress onto a higher-level course and onto gaining qualifications in art and design.

  • English and maths

Although the course is about visual communication, learners will learn key terms, encouraged to use appropriate vocabulary and to discuss their work and that of others. Learners will also learn about measuring, proportioning and perspective.

  • Other important information

For the first lesson you will need to bring with you an apron and an image to base you design on. You might want to bring your own materials but some resources will provided.
