  • Is this course for you?

    This course is aimed at students who have completed the beginner’s courses in Pottery or have previous experience and wish to continue with their progression. You will need a good understanding of the basic building techniques, throwing techniques, and glaze application and able to work independently with support from the tutor.

  • Required qualifications

    No qualifications required.

  • What skills will I develop?

    An understanding of the processes of pottery, the different clays and their use in pottery work. Developing clay building skills using the techniques of pinch, slab, coil and throwing on the wheel. Exploring different applications of glazing and the process pf firing and how this effects the finished work. Building confidence in developing their individual style and ideas through to a completed work.

    Continue at Lichfield with Pottery and Sculpture, explore Further Education in the field of Pottery and Ceramics.

  • English and maths

    Students may have to consider weight and measurements within their creative designs.

  • Other important information

    Students will be required to bring an apron with them and there will be additional costs required for the finished fired work based on weight and materials used. Some students may wish to purchase their own tools and additional resources as they progress.
