Photography Student Using Camera
  • Is this course for you?

Want more out of your camera, fed up of shooting on automatic and want to take more control of your images? Wondered about how to continue getting consistently better photographs?

Building on the beginners’ course, or for those with a little knowledge of photography, this course will continue to build your skills base.

We’ll look at some technical aspects of the camera and using light, look into creating that great image and practice, oh and have fun along the way as we explore what makes a good photograph and a good photographer.

  • Required qualifications

An understanding of shutter speeds, ISO and aperture is helpful, but we recap along the way and build on skills learnt during the beginners’ course. If you’re not sure, telephone the college and we can have a chat about it.

  • What skills will I develop?

You’ll learn from the outset to understand some of the foundations of photography, both technical and artistic. You’ll develop (pardon the pun!) your visual literacy skills (talking about a picture!), you’ll grow in technical ability (learn what the shutter speed and aperture really do) and grow in confidence in using post production techniques to create the photograph you saw (but haven’t quite achieved).

  • Careers

Many of my students came to class ‘just wanting to know a bit more about photography’ but went on to start their own photography business or go into Higher Education after catching ‘the photo bug’, and through all of the levels (beginners, intermediate and advanced) we look at opportunities for your continued involvement in photography.

  • English and maths

English and Maths is embedded into the course.

  • Other important information

You don’t need to bring anything to the first session, although I know some of you might want to bring a camera, so please do, oh and a pen always comes in handy!

You have to be aged 19 years and above to join this course.
