Guitar for Beginners

No previous musical experience or formal qualifications are required to join this beginners’ guitar course. It is designed to be fully accessible to anyone who has an interest in learning to play, regardless of their background or level of confidence. Whether you have never picked up a guitar before, tried learning in the past, or simply want to explore a new creative hobby, you will be supported from the very first session. The course starts with the absolute basics and progresses at a steady, manageable pace, ensuring all learners feel comfortable and able to develop their skills week by week. A friendly, inclusive approach means that curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to practise are the only things you need to bring—no exams, prior knowledge, or musical training required.

During this beginners’ guitar course, learners will develop a strong foundation in both practical skills and essential musical knowledge. They will learn how to hold and tune the guitar correctly, produce clear notes and chords, and develop coordination through basic strumming and picking techniques. As confidence grows, learners will begin to play simple chord progressions and well-known songs, applying techniques introduced in each session. Alongside practical playing skills, they will gain an understanding of key musical concepts such as rhythm, tempo, song structure, and how chords work together. The course also supports the development of good practice habits, enabling learners to build muscle memory and play with greater accuracy over time. By the end of the ten weeks, participants will have the skills to play a selection of beginner-level pieces, follow basic chord charts or tablature, and continue their learning independently or through further study. Most importantly, they will develop confidence, creativity, and enjoyment in making music.

After completing this beginners’ guitar course, learners will be well-placed to continue developing their musical skills through a range of progression opportunities. Many may choose to move on to an intermediate-level guitar course, where they can build on their technique, learn more complex chords, and begin exploring different playing styles. Others may wish to join group workshops, or informal music-making groups to gain confidence performing with others. Learners who discover a particular passion for music may consider progressing into broader creative arts pathways, such as music performance courses,With the foundational skills gained during this course, learners will also be able to continue practising independently at home, following beginner songbooks, , or structured practice plans. Whichever route they choose, this course equips them with the confidence and basic musical understanding needed to keep growing as guitarists and creative musicians.
