Required qualifications

This qualification is intended for learners aged 18 and over. Typical entry requirements include a relevant Level 3 qualification such as Veterinary Nursing, Canine Hydrotherapy, or a Level 6 Diploma in Animal or Veterinary Physiotherapy, together with at least one year of post-qualification experience in a clinical veterinary setting.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop advanced knowledge of animal laser therapy principles and their application in clinical practice. Topics include cellular responses in photobiomodulation, pain and inflammation, tissue repair, common treatment indications, dosing calculations, contraindications, laser physics, wavelength selection, delivery methods, and the health and safety requirements needed for safe and compliant practice.

Other important information

The GA Level 4 Award in the Principles of Animal Laser Therapies is a regulated qualification on the RQF. It consists of four mandatory units covering the core principles of photobiomodulation, clinical indications, physics and components of laser, and laser health and safety.

The primary focus of the qualification is canine application, although learners may encounter other small animals during training and practice. Equine applications are excluded from the scope of treatment.

Assessment is through a portfolio-based theory component and learners are assessed on a pass/fail basis.
