Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Training – Level 1 (1 Day Course)

    This 1 day course is designed for existing level 2 qualified motor vehicle mechanics and technicians who to wish gain knowledge about fundamental safety procedures in the maintenance of high voltage vehicles, such as following vehicle manufacturers’ protocols for powering down a vehicle and applying the correct barrier techniques to ensure electrical isolation so that the vehicle cannot restart unintentionally.

  • Required qualifications

    This course is open to any candidate with an existing level 2 or above in light vehicle maintenance and repair.

  • What skills will I develop?

    COURSE OVERVIEW

    •  General overview of electrical safety issues
    • Refresher on electricity and how and why it can harm people.
    • Introduction to the basic Health and Safety at Work principles and the requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. This will include the responsibilities of both employers and employees.
    • Workplace scenarios in which issues with hybrid or electric vehicles may be encountered.
    • Specific issues associated with hybrid and electric vehicles, to include:
    • How to identify a hybrid or electric vehicle
    • The types of high voltage components and where they are located.
    • The system voltages
    • The operational modes and states of the vehicles
    • The particular hazards associated with working on such vehicles.
    • Basic principles for safe working, particularly requirements for disconnection of the high voltage supply before starting work.

    After completion of the days course, you will have the fundamental skills to work safely on electric and hybrid vehicles

  • Other important information

    Workshop sessions will require steel toe capped boots, overalls and safety glasses, gloves and barrier cream will be provided. Candidates will also need a small pocket sized notebook a pen/pencil for making notes, sketches and taking technical information while working through practical tasks.

    Candidates without the required PPE will not be able to participate in practical sessions.

    Candidates without the required PPE will not be able to participate in practical sessions. No food, hot drinks or fizzy pop are to be consumed in the classrooms or workshop areas.
