  • Is this course for you?

    The CMI Level 3 Principles of Leadership and Management will be ideal for you if you want to develop your skills as a Leader/Manager. Maybe you are new to leadership/management, or you have some commercial leadership/management experiences but feel you need to develop your academic knowledge through further continued professional development (CPD).

    You will be supported through your progression through a range of topics including models of leadership and management, teamwork, motivation, conflict resolution, and cultural change.

  • Required qualifications

    It would be advantageous to have (or are working towards) a good level of English and maths at Level 2 or above to ensure that you feel able to manage your expectations of the course. You can access our fast track courses for English and maths here.

    During this course, there is an element of guided learning/self-directed study; therefore, it is essential that you can manage your time effectively to meet this element of the course.

    As there is an element of online learning you would be expected to have some information technology skills (although not necessarily a qualification in this field) to enable you to access resources and to interact with your tutor. During your first session you will be inducted to the platforms and media we will use to support your success. You can if you wish, access our digital courses for help and support with your digital skills.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Although not exhaustive, aspects of this course will include you being introduced to key principles of Leadership and Management and their differences.

    You will develop your knowledge in terms of theoretical aspects and models of Leadership and Management and consider your style(s) and their implementation.

    You will be supported to develop your skills and theoretical knowledge in your role as a Manager/Leader of others through consideration of effective communication, motivational models and techniques.

    You will explore various theoretical concepts to help you to develop your own motivation and motivation of individuals and teams. You will develop your knowledge of teamwork and effective collaboration to promote quality outcomes.

    You will develop your knowledge and skills in terms of effective resource management and good management and leadership practice through problem solving and lawful ethical diverse practices.

  • Careers

    Following completion of this level 3 course you may wish to consider developing your skills further. This may include other specific Leadership and Management courses at level 3, through to level 4 and 5. You may want to discuss your development pathway with your tutor at your tutorial support sessions.

  • Work experience

    There is no stipulation that you undertake work experience or are currently in a Leadership/Management role. This course is designed to support you in developing your Leadership and Management skills for your future success. However, you are welcome to contribute to effective Leadership and Management topical talking points regarding your experiences within groups as part of your learning. Group discussion and debate will help you to make sense of topics and how they translate to the workplace. There will also be opportunities to work in groups on case studies and role play in the classroom delivered sessions, to give a sense of real time experiences.

  • English and maths

    It would be advantageous for the learner to have a good level of English and maths at Level 2 or above to ensure that they feel able to manage the expectations of the course. Learners can access our fast track courses for English and maths here.

    Course specific:

    English – Learners will continue to develop English skills throughout this course through verbal and written tasks as well as research and reading to develop personal academic written skills.

    Maths – Learners will continue to develop their maths skills through topics such as resource management, budget and data management.

    You will be supported throughout your journey by an approved CMI tutor.

    This course is blended delivery through a mix of face-to-face delivery, online tutorials and guided distance learning.

    On successful enrolment you will have access to CMI and college platforms to enable you to independently access resources you need to complete given tasks.
