14-16 Schools Provision

Did you know, young people aged 14-16 have the chance to experience college before they finish year 11? We have two routes available Elective Home Education and School link programmes.

Partnerships with schools

Working collaboratively with schools we can offer vocational study programmes for young people during their Y10 and Y11 education at school. South Staffordshire College have fabulous working partnerships with high schools, Academies, SEND (upto Y14) and PRUs to ensure that our school provision offer is relevant, inclusive and informative to enhance their life choices.

All of our college sites, Cannock, Lichfield, Rodbaston and Tamworth (inc Torc) host vocational GCSE equivalent programmes for young people that can attend alongside school for one or two years.

Whether the programmes that you require are DfE approved (whereby you claim the points back in school), part of your bigger qualification back in school or simply experiential/transitional learning, we can create an amazing bespoke course that works for you.

Electively Home Educated – Yr 10 & Y11

Young people of Y10/11 age can enrol with us if they are registered as electively home educated.

Within our vocational courses, EHE learners will study both English and mathematics GCSE and take the exams at the same dates as mainstream schools in their Y11.

If you are EHE, self-motivated to aim high for excellent attendance, focused learning on your vocational choice of career pathway and a passion to gain your full potential in English and maths then we could have the perfect combination on one of our extremely successful pathways. We are currently offering Entry 3 & Level 1 Animal Care at Rodbaston; Entry 3 & Level 1 Creative Industries and Creative Media at Lichfield and Cannock.

The last few years, where COVID has affected our schools/learning, it has been highly demanding and stressful time for our young people and there is a huge rise in the amount of young people now EHE. There is a huge response of applications for these programmes so early application is recommended. College places are subject to individuals meeting interview requirements and have a proven track record of striving to achieve.

Elective Home Education

South Staffordshire College offer a GCSE maths and English programme alongside a vocational route to those who are Y10 or Y11 and are registered as electively home educated. In completing their GCSEs with us, parents will not pay for GCSE exams as these will be funded by the college.

School link programmes

Working with our local high schools we offer GCSE equivalent (and DfE approved) qualifications that school will release students for half or full day per week as part of their GCSE/A Level offer. These programmes are designed to allow students in years 10 and 11 to gain an additional qualification in a vocational subject of their choice. The length of time needed in college per week will depend on the subject chosen. It allows students to experience a post 16 environment within a progression pathway of their choice. These programmes are offered in conjunction with school and college to ensure the best possible outcomes for our young people.
