    This Level 5 Diploma is aimed at practising or aspiring middle managers and leaders who are typically accountable to a senior manager or business owner. This means that you may be interested in this course if you wish to develop your skills from junior management to middle management to prepare you for such roles as Departmental Manager, Divisional Manager, or Specialist Manager in a specific area.

    This course will build on previous Level 3 management and leadership qualifications in terms of specifics of middle management and leadership roles and responsibilities. This includes aims and objectives within organisational strategy, operational plans, planning, managing projects, managing physical and human resources, and ensuring and managing quality outcomes for continuous improvement.

  • Required qualifications

    As this is an adult course there is a requirement that you are aged 19+.

    You will need a Level 3 Diploma in Management and Leadership (CMI, ILM, or equivalent) to undertake this Level 5 Diploma. If you do not currently hold a Level 3 qualification in Management and Leadership, you can find our Level 3 Diploma under adult learners on our website here.

    It would be expected that you have a good level of English and maths at Level 2 or above to ensure that you feel able to manage your expectations the course. You can access our fast track courses for English and maths on our website here.

    As there is an element of online learning you would be expected to have some information technology skills (although not necessarily a qualification in this field) to enable you to access resources and to interact with your tutor.   • What skills will I develop?

    You will develop your knowledge in managing staff performance to essential the smooth running of an organisation and ways to build stakeholder relationships that are long lasting and sustainable. You will develop your skills and abilities by considering operational plans as an essential management tool. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the strategic direction of the organisation.

    You will consider how approaches to management and leadership can lead to dynamic results, innovation, product development, performance improvement, change, customer service excellence, strategy and problem solving. You will also develop your knowledge in recognising reflective practice as an essential management tool.

  • Careers

    Following on from your CMI Level 5 qualification, you may be interested in a CMI Level 7 Leadership and Management qualification which will support you through to a career in senior management. You may want to discuss your development pathway with your tutor at your tutorial support sessions.

  • Work experience

    The Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership is designed to support you in developing your management and leadership skills for your future success in middle management.

    Throughout the course you will be expected to contribute to effective management and leadership topical talking points regarding your work experiences (present and past) within groups as part of your learning. This may be experiences at junior level or current middle management level.

    Group discussion, research and debate will help you to make sense of topics and how they translate to the workplace. There will also be opportunities to work in groups on case studies and scenarios, to give a sense of real time experiences.

  • English and maths

    • English – Learners will continue to develop English skills throughout this course through verbal and written tasks as well as research and reading to develop personal academic written skills.
    • Maths – Learners will continue to develop their maths skills through topics such as resource management, budget and data management.

    You will be supported throughout your journey by an approved CMI tutor.

    As well as attending sessions any taught sessions or tutorials (guided learning) the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership requires commitment to specific independent learning hours per unit/module. Therefore, it is important that you are able to commit time to your independent study.

    Depending on your circumstances you can choose to study blended (through a mix of face-to-face delivery, online tutorials and guided distance learning) or all online. Please check this website for course options to suit your personal and professional needs.

    On successful enrolment you will have access to college/CMI platforms to enable you to independently access resources you need to complete your assessments. You are assessed through modular units based on course work and there are no exams.
