    This course is suitable for qualified motor vehicle technicians, mechanics and mobile air conditioning technicians looking to gain gas certification.

    Successful candidates will be issued with a lifetime certificate from the Institute of the Motor Industry Awards Ltd which shows that they are compliant.

    The IMI Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ), which is approved by DEFRA, offers a single unit solution that provides experienced automotive Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) technicians with evidence that they meet the minimum F gas requirement (EC842/2006 and annex EC307/2008).

    Suitable for competent MAC technicians who have completed relevant qualifications and have a good understanding of components and system operation to carry out servicing procedures relating to vehicle air conditioning systems.

    This is a 3 day course – day and time are subject to demand.

  • Required qualifications

    Basic knowledge of the operation of mobile air conditioning systems containing fluorinated greenhouse gases and procedures for environmentally friendly recovery of those gases.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Completion will provide you with an IMIAL F-Gas Level 3 Award in Automotive Refrigerant Handling (EC842-2006).

    Assessment is via practical assessment, knowledge-based tests and an online exam.

  • Careers

    Once you have completed this course you will have achieved the IMI Level 3 Award in Automotive Refrigerant Handling (EC842-2006) (QCF).

  • English and maths

    Whilst at South Staffordshire College, you will be given the opportunity to improve your maths and English skills by continuing to study at GCSE or Functional Skill level. We have a great team working alongside your main course tutors with the skills and knowledge to improve your maths and English skills.

  • Other important information

    You are required to purchase safety boots, work gear and details of these will be discussed at interview. All other equipment such as power tools and safety aids, PPE, are supplied by the college as required.
