    If you currently work in the health and social care industry, are aged 19 or above, and want a recognised Level 2 qualification, then this is the course for you.

    Adult Care Workers are frontline staff who help adults with their care and support needs to live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives and achieve personal goals.

    To apply for this course, you will need to already be employed in the care industry, and there are a range of job roles that this course is suitable for including: Care Assistant, Care Worker, Support Worker, Personal Assistant, Relief Team Worker, Support Worker – Supported Living, Key Worker in Residential Settings, Key Worker in Domiciliary Services, Key Worker in Day Services, Home Care Support Worker, Substance Misuse Worker, Learning Disability Support Worker, Mental Health Support Worker, Mental Health Outreach Worker, or Re-enablement Worker.

    Please note that the course is free for those who:

    If you fall into one of these categories, please ignore the payment screen after you have submitted your application. If you earn over the threshold, you are still able to do the course but would either have to pay for it yourself or get your employer to pay for it.

    Upon successful completion of this course, you will achieve the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Care.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are needed.

    You must be aged 19 or over and already be employed in a care setting and have completed your induction training.

    A good understanding of basic English and maths and a commitment to completing the coursework set is essential.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will develop knowledge and skills for care settings including:

    • communication
    • how to handle information safely and securely
    • personal development and the progression routes available
    • the implementation of person-centred approaches
    • equality and inclusion
    • health, safety and well-being
    • the responsibilities of a care worker
    • duty of care
    • safeguarding and protection

    Optional units will be discussed and chosen depending on your role, service users who you support, and any specialist subjects you are interested in studying.

  • Careers

    Once you have completed and achieved your Level 2 Diploma in Care, you could progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care with us or the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship.

    You may also want to progress onto a more senior role at work such as Care Officer, Care Supervisor, Senior Care Worker, Supervising Care Worker, Senior Support Worker, Relief Team Leader, Social Work Assistant, Social Services Officer, Outreach Development Worker, Community Support Worker, Community Outreach Worker, Community Development Worker, Family Support Worker, or Personal Assistant.

    Your knowledge would also enable you to specialise in helping those with learning disabilities, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, homecare, dementia, and end-of-life care.

  • Work experience

    Please note that this is a work-based learning course which means that you already need to be employed in the health and social care industry to apply.

    No college attendance is necessary, but our workplace assessor will visit you monthly at your workplace.

  • English and maths

    English skills will be developed during the course as you will be researching units, completing work either handwritten or on Microsoft Word, completing discussions, completing reflective accounts, and taking part in verbal questioning.

    Maths skills will be developed during the course as you may be completing food and fluid charts, mileage documents, shift rotas, medication administration or auditing, pressure sore risk assessments, or financial transaction sheets.

    Support will be given if any areas for development are identified.

  • Other important information

    The course lasts for 13 months.

    There are no exams with this course, and you will be assessed through coursework.
