    This Level 3 qualification is ideal for individuals who have already completed first aid or animal care courses, such as the Level 2 Award in Principles of First Aid for Cats and Dogs or the Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid, and want to progress further in their careers. It provides essential training for professionals working in veterinary practices, pet services, grooming salons, rescue centres, or dog daycare settings.

    By completing this course, you will gain the practical skills and legal knowledge required to safely and ethically implant microchips in cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets. With microchipping now mandatory for dogs and soon to be required for cats, this qualification will ensure you are fully prepared to meet industry needs

  • Required qualifications

    • You must be at least 16 years old.
    • No formal qualifications are required, but prior experience or a qualification in animal care, veterinary support, or first aid is recommended.
    • Basic literacy and numeracy skills are needed to complete the assessments.

  • What skills will I develop?

    • Microchip implantation techniques – how to safely implant and scan microchips.
    • Legislation and ethics – understanding UK laws surrounding animal microchipping.
    • Animal handling and welfare – how to minimise stress and ensure safe restraint.
    • Recognising microchip issues – dealing with migration, failed scans, and post-implantation care.
