  • Is this course for you?

    A certificate in culinary skills can help you get into the hospitality and catering industry or move up in your career in the sector. This qualification is also designed to give you the underpinning knowledge that can help you achieve the standards required for industry.

    The course will also help you to develop skills and techniques that can be used across other disciplines and in everyday life.

    You will study:

    • Food Safety
    • Effective Teamwork
    • Preparation, Cooking and Finishing different foods
    • Health, Safety and Security in the Hospitality Working Environment
  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications required, although a keen interest in cookery and learning new skills is vital.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will develop new skills alongside using your existing skills to prepare and cook a variety of dishes, to do this you will get to work with an extensive range of ingredients to meet the course criteria. Alongside this you will develop your knowledge of health and safety that surrounds the industry and put into practice within our working kitchen.

  • Careers

    You could look to join one of our full-time courses or explore other short courses (such as bread making/bakery) to help further your skills, knowledge and employability skills.

    You may want to put your new skills to use in the industry and seek employment. If this is the case you could consider jobs in:

    • Chain and Hotel Restaurants
    • Pubs
    • Cruise Ships
    • Armed Forces
    • Schools
    • NHS
    • Private Chef
    • Events or location catering/weddings

     

    Salary – You can earn on average between £13,000 and £50,000 a year as a chef in the UK.

    Your starting salary can vary because of factors like level of experience, training, location or the size of the company. Your salary as a chef will increase over time as you build your skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Work experience

    You will not be required to undertake work experience as part of this qualification, although the skills you will gain on the course will no doubt provide you with valuable employability skills that will support you in future employment within the industry.

  • English and maths

    You will not be required to study formal qualifications in English or maths as part of this course, although you will develop such skills as they are embedded into the qualification.
