  • Is this course for you?

The advanced class will be a continuation of the intermediate course. In these classes you will have the opportunity to practice conversation supported by grammar and pronunciation, using simple language with clear pronunciation, about basic topics such as meeting people, ordering food and drink, directions, travelling by train, tourist information, and shopping amongst others.

  • Required qualifications

There is no need for a formal qualification but students need to have been learning a German course at Intermediate level or need to refresh a GCSE qualification. Also eligible are those who may have lived in a German-speaking country for a number of years and communicated in German.

  • What skills will I develop?

The course will enable you to acquire advanced speaking and listening skills in German so that you can communicate effectively with native speakers. The emphasis will be on oral/aural skills. Reading and writing will be practiced mainly through homework set at end of lessons.

  • Careers

This is a leisure course with no formal qualification at the end. However, some previous students have successfully applied for jobs in Germany or have used the language in their jobs in England.

  • English and maths

German students benefit from acquiring a good understanding of basic English grammar through German grammar. In addition, numbers are very important to everyone in all sorts of situations like asking the price of an item, asking the time, purchasing food and enquiring about arriving and leaving times of transport, adding and subtracting to find the value of something, etc.

  • Other important information

This course runs for 3 terms of 10 weeks each, usually starting in September. You will need access to a dictionary, hard copy or digital and a lever arch file for work done in class or at home.
