    Are you looking to progress within the Early Years Sector?  Are you proactive in your current role that would influence other practitioners within a room leader or deputy position? An Early Years Lead Practitioner (EYLP) is a highly skilled professional who will take on an operational lead for the care, learning and development of all young children within their care and applying adaptations to individuals needs that is inclusive and holistic. An EYLP is committed to developing their professional and educational competencies and interacts with children aged birth – eight years, families, practitioners and other professionals and agencies. They will be responsible for supporting the quality of learning and development within their setting and lead on operational aspects of the provision that are typically responsible for leading other practitioner and general aspects or environments such as; planning, assessments, nutrition and activities that support children’s holistic development.

    Which job roles is this course suitable for?

    Early Years, Pre-school and Reception age – Year 3.

  • Required qualifications

    It is required for you to have a Level 3 Early Years Educator Qualification and Grade 4 or above in English and maths.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will gain knowledge on ethical and rights-based approaches to support children within your care and how to develop high quality childcare environments that are continuously evaluated. Knowledge on theoretical perspectives and approaches to leadership and how to support others through practices. You will dive into safeguarding policies and procedures and understand the role of the designated lead. You will gain knowledge on theories of self-regulation, resilience and well-being and the impact of adverse early childhood experience. You will also gain knowledge on how children learn and develop from conception to eight years in relation to typical and atypical neurological, cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, communication and physical development.

    From the knowledge you will gain, your practical skills will develop through adaptation and reflection. You will carry out your general day to day duties such as assessments, observation, physical care routines and supporting children’s learning and development adapting to their individual needs that will be assessed and questioned on in preparation for your end point assessment.

  • Work experience

    As an apprentice you will work alongside your studies. Full day release will be required and day dependent on the campus where you are enrolled.

  • English and maths

    Grade 4 or above is the entry requirements for English. Throughout your time on the course, you will develop the understanding of differently terminology used within the sector, produce documents and gather research and you will have feedback provided to ensure your work reads to an academic level.

    Grade 4 or above is the entry requirements for maths. You will develop the understanding of maths within the industry through time management through assignments and tasks that are set. You will continuously develop and adapt your knowledge on maths to meet children’s needs and when supporting staff.

  • Other important information

    The course is 24 months with an additional 5 months to complete your end point assessment. As part of the end point assessment there are two components. These being an onsite observation with questions and a professional discussion including a case study report.
