    Are you energetic, enthusiastic, and not afraid to get messy? This could be the course for you!

    An Early Years Educator is a professional who has a duty of care in ensuring a child is safe, protected, and healthy. As an Educator, you will support children with their learning and development through a range of fun and exciting activities that are linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage that supports their learning and development. You will also carry out their basic care needs and develop a strong relationship with the children and their parents.

    This course is suitable for job roles working with Early Years, Pre-school and Reception ages.

  • Required qualifications

    • It is required for you to have Grade 4 or above in English and Grade 4 in maths is preferred.
    • To be able to gain a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.
  • What skills will I develop?

    You will gather a wealth of knowledge about the importance of legislation and how it is embedded within the sector. Important topics such as safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and safety, and Special Education Needs will be researched, and your knowledge of policies and procedures will be expanded. Other areas such as the key person approach, environments, and learning and development, will be discussed and you will gain knowledge on different approaches and how you can support children and their individual needs through activities created by yourself.

    From the knowledge you will gain, your practical skills will develop. You will carry out day-to-day tasks and care routines. You will carry out activities that are purposeful and fun to ensure children develop against the statutory framework. Skills of communication, confidence, and teamwork will be enhanced. Within time, you will be able to think quickly and use your initiative to ensure children have a fun filled packed day!

  • Careers

    Career opportunities include becoming a Childminder Assistant, Early Years Educator, Early Years Worker, Nursery Educator, Nursery Nurse, or Nursery Worker.

    You can also expand your career through training and become a teacher, assessor, childminder, or work with special education needs.

  • Work experience

    As an apprentice you will work alongside your studies. Full day release will be required, and the day depends on the campus where you are enrolled.

  • English and maths

    English: Grade 4 or above is the entry requirements for the Early Years Educator. Throughout your time on the course, you will develop an understanding of the language used within the sector and adapt your language to meet children’s individual needs.

    Maths: Grade 4 is preferred as entry requirements. You will develop the understanding of maths within the industry through time management, routine, ratios and activities where you will have to consider resources and how your activities might link to maths to support children.

  • Other important information

    The course is 18 months including your end point assessment. As part of the end point assessment there are two components, these being an onsite observation and a professional discussion.
