South Staffordshire College’s new Level 5 Diploma in Web Application Development is designed to take you and your career to the next level. This course will be your fast-track to a career in technology and coding.
This one-year course will provide you with a hands-on practical course that will focus on development of your coding skills and designed around the design, build and test of a fully functioning app that will become part of your portfolio to prospective employers.
This course is designed to provide you with a Level 5 qualification in Web Application Development and is delivered as a flexible blended learning programme with 4 hours per week online or in class with your tutor (although, 10-12 hours of independent study required per week over 36 weeks or 22-26 hours of independent study required per week over 2 weeks).
The qualification is made up of 4 units that progress you through front-end and back-end processes, learning coding process and flow. The units are:
User Centric Frontend Development
This unit aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to build a front end web application. It includes understanding the principles of responsive design, documentation and effective layout of content.
Interactive Frontend Development
This unit aims to develop knowledge and skills needed to build a dynamic, interactive Frontend web application. It includes understanding user input and control when interacting with a web application. It also includes understanding the principles of manual testing for debugging.
Data Centric Development
This focuses on understanding and developing the practical skills to build a Back-End web application. Topics covered include data storage and data management using relational and non-relational databases.
Full Stack Frameworks with Django
You will build on their existing skills and learn how to integrate them effectively to build a Full Stack web application. The unit covers the use of frameworks, APIs, automated testing, persistent storage, user authentication and ecommerce functionality.
The course will be delivered via a Learning Management System (LMS with the intention to take you through from the basics of web development through to creating fully-fledged e-commerce applications while at the same time covering broader topics they will need to be ‘job-ready’ at the end of the course.
Your taught delivery is supplemented by an online platform where each module contains video content, lectures, research/reference material, quizzes, and challenges as you progress through the course which will be supported via your personal tutor.
The programme also involves live interaction with your personal tutor for one session a week (Thursday evening 6pm-9pm) for a live lecture. This will allow you to gain support and guidance for the work you are doing and to prepare for assessments and to make sure your app development is on track.
