The purpose of this qualification is to increase your knowledge and awareness of safeguarding, the Prevent duty, and online safety.

This qualification is aimed at anyone who has a responsibility for safeguarding children, young people or vulnerable adults. It will be particularly useful for people working in a training / educational setting, youth workers, and those involved in the running of youth sports teams and community groups that support children and young people.

The course also provides employers with a structured training programme that will meet the training needs of their employees, giving peace of mind that staff are equipped with the knowledge they need to promote the safety and well-being of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

  • Required qualifications

Learners should be aged 19 and over, but otherwise there are no specific entry requirements for this programme.

  • What skills will I develop?

As well as attaining a nationally recognised qualification upon completion, you will gain a thorough understanding of the Prevent Duty and safeguarding processes.

The course comprises of three assessments:

Assessment 1 – Understanding the Prevent Duty

This assessment explores how and why the Prevent duty and British Values have become part of our everyday life. The course explains the key themes and definitions of terrorism, extremism and radicalisation and the different ways the risk of radicalisation can be recognised and reduced.

    Assessment 2 – Understanding Safeguarding

This unit examines key legislation and explores the roles different agencies play in protecting vulnerable individuals. You will also learn how to recognise signs of abuse or harm and know how to respond if abuse is alleged, suspected or disclosed.

Assessment 3 – Understanding Online Safety

The final assessment concentrates on online safety. You will learn about inappropriate and illegal online activity and how to reduce the risks posed online. You will also be aware of how to spot signs and behavioural changes, in an individual, which may cause concern.

  • Careers

By undertaking this programme, you will be able to further your own continuous professional development, improving your career prospects.

The course is designed to raise your awareness of safeguarding, Prevent duty and online safety, including the relevant policies, procedures and support available within these areas.

This course is particularly useful as an overall introduction to the subjects particularly if you are interested in pursuing a career within this area or are currently working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.

You may complete other distance learning courses, which will complement your safeguarding and Prevent qualification such as L2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs, L2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems, Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young Peoples Mental Health and Level 2 Counselling Skills.
