  • Is this course for you?

    The Level 2 Certificate in Business is a qualification which provides learners with knowledge and understanding of the different elements of the business environment. Whatever career direction you choose to follow there will be elements of business across a range of sectors. You will learn about the theoretical concepts and professional practice used across industry as a whole. As a work-related qualifications it is designed to offer you a choice of routes into Level 3 programmes and employment.

  • Required qualifications

    In order to complete this course, you will need 3 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above. One of these GCSE requirements will be maths. You will also need English at grade C/4. You will study maths and/or English as part of your programme of study as many employers require these skills.

  • What skills will I develop?

    The course units offer an Introduction to essential business knowledge namely Marketing, Finance and Enterprise in the Business Sector. You will have the opportunity to study topics such as:

    • Enterprise
    • Finance for Business
    • Promoting a Brand
    • Principles of Marketing

    Specialist topics may include:

    Principles of Customer Service

    • Financial Planning & Forecasting
    • Recruitment, Selection and Employment
    • Building Successful Business Teams
    • Business Online
    • Enhancing the Customer Experience
    • Visual Merchandising in Retail Business

    This course develops technical and employability skills such as making presentations, working in groups and working individually. You will develop research skills, become a more independent learner and gain knowledge and understanding which will enable you to meet all kinds of challenges in your future careers.

  • Careers

    Upon successful completion of the course you will gain a widely recognised Level 2 qualification. Achieving a merit or distinction may allow you to progress onto Level 3 qualifications, an apprenticeship or employment.

    Recent studies have shown that employers consider work experience to be extremely desirable. Whilst qualifications are hugely important, employers also require candidates to have skills and experience necessary for the workplace.

    Preparing you for the working world is very important to us, so that you may be successful in your next step.

    Work experience placements provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills; have a better understanding of the industry you want to work in and give you an insight into what it is like to be employed. They can also be great fun and very rewarding and you may even be offered a great reference, a part–time job, holiday working hours, apprenticeships or full-time jobs.

    Once you start your course you will be provided with further information about work experience programmes, but it is never too early for you to start thinking about work experience placements and finding an employer who will offer you an opportunity.

    Work experience is an opportunity for you to gain experience in your chosen career path in order to develop relevant skills. Equally, it also helps you to acquire employability skills, attitudes and behaviours that are essential for future employment. There will be an opportunity for you to reflect on your performance during work experience and you will receive some form of reference/feedback from the employer.

  • English and maths

    You will continue to improve your English and/or maths skills in timetabled lessons alongside your course, and if you plan to progress to a Level 3 course you will need to demonstrate progress in your skills in English and/or maths by the end of the year.

    As part of the course you will develop your English and maths skills through the use of Century during tutorials. There are a wide range of units that will require use of English and maths. You will also develop your research skills through independent research tasks.
