  • Is this course for you?

Our Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is designed for those aged 16-19 who wish to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed beauty therapist and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty therapist.

The course gives you the opportunity to learn new skills as you embark on your journey into the glamorous world of beauty therapy.

On successful completion of this course, you will have achieved the VTCT Skills Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy.

  • Required qualifications

To be accepted onto the course, you will need a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or to have completed Level 1 Beauty Therapy.

You will need to be an enthusiastic and dedicated learner who is passionate about the beauty industry, and willing to learn and try new skills.

  • What skills will I develop?

Over the course of the year, you will develop your knowledge, understanding, and skills on a range of units including:

    • Consultation techniques and client care
    • Facial treatments
    • Skin type analysis
    • Manicure treatments
    • Pedicure treatments
    • Waxing services
    • Eyebrow shaping services
    • Eyelash and eyebrow tinting services
    • Make-up applications
    • Anatomy and physiology for beauty therapists
    • Health, safety and hygiene
    • Display stock

You will develop skills which are valued highly by employers including communication, customer service, an awareness of environmental sustainability, commercial skills, problem solving, and teamwork.

You will also gain a VTCT Skills Level 2 Award in Preventing Contact Dermatitis.

  • Careers

Level 2 Beauty Therapy will qualify you as a skilled beauty therapist and your next steps could be to build your own business as a self-employed therapist, or to work in a reputable high-street salon.

You could also choose to develop your knowledge and skills further and progress on to our Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy. Completing our Level 3 course would give you even more career opportunities such as working in commercial salons or destination/day spas.

  • Work experience

Work experience is a compulsory aspect of the course, and throughout the year you will be required to complete a work experience placement of at least 40 hours within a salon. The placement is designed to harmonise the theory you will learn in class and the real-world applications of the course.

Work experience will also improve your career prospects as many Level 2 students have secured permanent employment, or apprenticeship offers, through their work experience placements with salons.

  • English and maths

English and maths qualifications are an integral part of the working world and will help you to prosper. If you don’t have a Grade 4 or above in English, maths, or both, you will be required to attend weekly GCSE classes at college alongside your beauty course.

Within our Level 2 course, English and maths will also be embedded into each of the sessions and will help to develop your confidence in dealing with a number of core skills such as the costing of treatments, effective communication with clients, timings for treatments, and taking bookings.

  • Other important information

When you begin your journey as a trainee beauty therapist, you will be expected to wear a uniform and purchase a kit which will become your tools to success. The college expects all learners to arrive to every class with all of the required equipment, uniform, and a determination to work.

Depending on your individual circumstances, you may be eligible for financial support to help you cover the cost of both the uniform and the kit. You can read more about the different financial support on offer at the college here.
