  • Is this course for you?

Have you been away from education for a while and are now eager to pursue a university degree?

The Access to HE Diploma (Education Professions) is the perfect course for you. This flexible programme opens the door to a wide variety of education-related degree courses, including teaching and other vocational or subject-specific fields.

This is a one-year, full-time programme (35 weeks). The course will be delivered remotely, with all learning and assessments conducted through Pearl, an online learning platform. You will be assigned a personal tutor who will guide you through your studies and offer support with assignments.

Depending on your prior qualifications, you may also need to study maths or English, which could extend your timetable. This will be determined by the grades you’ve already achieved.

In some cases, you may need to take out an Advanced Learner Loan to fund the course, based on your age and previous qualifications. However, as long as you successfully complete the course and progress to university, your fees will be waived upon entry.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the Access to HE Diploma (Education Professions), providing you with the qualifications to move forward in your academic journey.

  • Required qualifications

You will need to have previously achieved GCSE English at Grade A-C (4-9) or equivalent (Level 2 Functional Skills*) and GCSE maths at Grade A-C (4-9) or equivalent (Level 2 Functional Skills*). If you do not have Level 2 qualifications in maths and English you may be able to study one of these alongside your Access course. This will be discussed as part of the Information, Advice and Guidance process.

*Some Universities will only accept GCSEs to meet their entry requirements. They may also require you to have additional GCSEs at Grade A-C (4-9), including a science for some pathways. All applicants are advised to check entry requirements for their chosen degree programme. English and maths are an integral part of the programme and will be embedded within all subject areas so that your skills in these areas are continued whilst on the course.
