Junior Keeper Experience

Is your child an animal lover and aspiring zookeeper? We offer a Junior Keeper Experience where children aged 7-15 can help our keepers clean, feed, and care for a wide range of animals here at the Animal Zone!

• Our Junior Keeper Experience is available every Saturday and Sunday and daily during half-terms and school holidays. Time slots are either 9am-1pm or 12pm-4pm.
• The experience also includes discounted lunch and a certificate.
• Being a keeper is a messy job, so your little one will need to wear suitable old clothes and shoes, such as waterproofs and wellies.
• Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Price: £50.00 per person (includes entry for one accompanying adult).

Adult Keeper Experience

This experience is perfect for animal lovers aged 16+ who would love to get up close with some of the Animal Zone’s favourite species!

Alongside one of our keepers, you will get to feed some of our animals, undertake daily keeper tasks to ensure our animals are well cared for, participate in enrichment activities for our animals and participate in animal handling and training.

• Our Adult Keeper Experience is available every Saturday and Sunday and daily during half-terms and school holidays. Time slots are either 9am-1pm or 12pm-4pm.
• This experience also includes discounted lunch and access to the Animal Zone for the remainder of the day after your experience.
• Being a keeper is a messy job, so you will need to wear suitable old clothes and shoes, such as waterproofs and wellies or boots.

Lemur Encounter

Join us in our lemur enclosure to get up close with our nine majestic ring-tailed lemurs! You might even meet some different species of lemur including Nod, our black lemur, and JJ, our red-fronted lemur!

This VIP encounter will include a 30-minute feeding session as well as a personal talk from one of our keepers.

This encounter is available to adults and children over 5 years of age. Children between 5 and 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that there is a maximum of 4 people in one party.

Meerkat Encounter – Coming Soon!

Here at the Animal Zone, we are home to four meerkats named Tilly, Mowgli, Maple and Manuka.

This VIP encounter will allow you to meet our meerkats and will include a 30-minute feeding session as well as a personal talk from one of our keepers.

This encounter is available to adults and children over 5 years of age. Children between 5 and 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that there is a maximum of 4 people in one party.

Reptile Encounter

Get up close with our scaly, but friendly, reptiles in our Reptile Room! You might meet a blue-tongued skink, a royal python, a corn snake, a leopard gecko or even Reg, our popular rhino iguana!

This VIP encounter will allow you to meet a range of our reptiles and will include a 30-minute feeding session as well as a personal talk from one of our keepers.

This encounter is available to adults and children over 5 years of age. Children between 5 and 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that there is a maximum of 4 people in one party.

Birthday Parties

Throw an animal-packed party at the Animal Zone! Celebrate your birthday or special event with us and our animals. We offer party packages to suit different needs and budgets, and pride ourselves on providing a fun, educational and value experience for all.

Your party package can include:

• Hire of a designated party area in our Visitor Centre and admission to the Animal Zone for all party guests as well as 4 members of immediate family. Additional admission fees for other guests will apply.
  Price: £100.00 for 2.5 hours. Additional time for your party will cost a further £40.00 per hour.
• Hire one of our keepers for a 1-hour personalised animal encounter with either some of our fluffy or scaly animals.
  Price: £40.00 for 1 hour.
• Party food can be prepared and delivered to your party. Please click here for a sample food menu.
  Price: £6.00 per child.
• Additional extras are available on request including party hats, animal party masks and party bags.
  Price: Hats £0.35 per child, masks £0.75 per child, and bags £1.75 per child.

Please note that our birthday parties require a minimum of 10 and maximum of 15 children.

Uniform Bookings

Do you have a pack of young people who would like to come along and meet our animals, learn about animal care and work on their badges? These after school sessions are suitable for rainbows, brownies, beavers, cubs or similar groups, and can be tailored to be just for fun or to meet the requirements of badges or alternative goals if desired.

An example evening activity could include feeding, watering, handling and health checking our rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as cleaning out their enclosures. We can also offer a similar reptile-based activity if preferred.

Sessions are available every Monday and Wednesday from 5.30pm-6.30pm and there is a minimum group size of at least 10 children.

Price: £3.00 per child for the hour / £2.00 per adult for the hour

Outreach Visits

We can bring the zoo to you!

Our outreach visits are an exciting opportunity for you to learn about and handle some of the fantastic animals we have here at the Animal Zone in your own setting. Whether it’s a school, community group or care home, we have something for everyone. Outreach sessions are 60 minutes and can be tailored to the group’s educational needs or interests.

Animals may include small mammals (e.g. rabbits and guinea pigs), reptiles (e.g. snakes and lizards) and minibeasts (e.g. snails and stick insects).

Price: £60.00 for the hour plus travel expenses at £0.45 per mile.
