    This qualification builds advanced knowledge and practical skills in clinical nutrition, consulting, medical clinics, leadership and more. It’s ideal if you want to take on greater responsibility in client care, patient support, and veterinary practice operations.

    You’ll work closely with experienced staff, complete practical assessments, and gain insight into ethical, legal and leadership aspects of veterinary nursing. This course supports your transition into a senior clinical role.

    You must be a listed RVN with the RCVS to apply. You’ll need strong commitment, curiosity, and the drive to lead in practice.

    If you’re serious about progressing your career and enhancing patient outcomes, this course gives you the tools to succeed.

  • Required qualifications

    • You must be a current Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with the RCVS.
    • Basic digital skills are essential, as elements are delivered and assessed online.
    • You will also need access to a VetSkill-approved placement practice for the practical portfolio.

    We will verify your eligibility during initial assessment.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will gain skills across seven key areas:

    1. Consulting and client communication
    2. Clinical nutrition planning and implementation
    3. Running medical clinics in practice
    4. Safe prescribing and dispensing as a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP)
    5. Professional practice, ethics, and legislation
    6. Leadership, coaching, and mentoring
    7. Hands-on practical nursing and assessment

    You will be assessed through written work, case studies, exams, practicals, and a skills portfolio.

  • Careers

    This course prepares you for advanced roles such as:

    • Veterinary Practice Nurse
    • Clinical Coach
    • Head Nurse or Team Leader
    • Client Services and Nurse Clinics Coordinator
    • SQP (Companion Animal)

    You may also progress into:

    • Teaching or mentoring roles
    • Further postgraduate study in veterinary nursing or related fields
    • Practice management roles

    Successful learners gain automatic registration as a C-SQP with VetSkill.

    • The qualification includes summative assessments: written assignments, case studies, written and practical exams.
    • The practical exam includes a long-case scenario and professional discussion.
    • Delivery is a mix of face-to-face workshops, tutorials, and online learning.
    • You’ll receive guidance on creating your e-portfolio.
    • You must complete all assessments to gain the qualification.
    • Distinction is awarded for first-attempt passes at the highest grade across key assessments.
