  • Is this course for you?

    This qualification is designed for any member of staff, parent, governor, volunteer or visitor that works with, or has access to, children and learners and is designed to give students the knowledge and understanding of their legal responsibility to safeguard and protect the welfare of children and learners.

  • Required qualifications

    There are no formal entry requirements, however you will need to have a keen interest in safeguarding.

  • What skills will I develop?

    To be awarded the Level 1 Award in Understanding Safeguarding in Education and Childcare Settings, students are required to successfully complete 2 mandatory units:

    1. Understand safeguarding and protection in education and childcare settings
    2. Understand the role of the education and childcare practitioner in safeguarding children and learners
  • Careers

    Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:

    • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent
    • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

    Or use the award as part of their working practices.

  • Work experience

    There is no requirement to for work experience, however it would be beneficial to be able to undertake some work experience as part of the course. In order to do this, you would need to have DBS clearance at a cost of £44.00

  • English and maths

    There will be no requirement to undertake maths and English as part of this course, however in order to progress in your career in working with children, it is favourable to have GCSEs in maths and English at a 4 or above or the equivalent.
