    The Technical Qualification is primarily aimed for students who wish to progress into the Primary School, Secondary School or Support Assistant. This qualification will equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to enter skilled employment.

    To achieve this qualification, you must successfully demonstrate achievement of the Core Component and one Occupational Specialism Component, Assisting Teaching.

    Holders of this qualification may be counted in staff: child ratios and have a licence to practise in Primary and Secondary Schools.

    This T-level course will help you boost your employment prospects by gaining extensive experience on a work placement in a real-world environment.

    Your T-Level will be worth UCAS points – a T-Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A Levels at A* (168 points) – and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.

  • Required qualifications

    You will need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range including maths at grade 4 and English at a grade 5, and a keen interest in the topic. Entry is subject to a successful interview.

  • What skills will I develop?

    In Year One you will focus on the core components. All students will develop an understanding of:

    • the education and childcare sector from ages 0 to 19
    • child development
    • how to support children and young people’s education
    • safeguarding, health and safety and wellbeing
    • understanding and managing behaviour
    • observing and assessing children and young people
    • equality and diversity
    • special educational needs and disability
    • English as an additional language
    • working with parents, carers and wider families
    • working with agencies and services that support children, families and carers
    • reflective practice and other forms of professional development

    In Year Two you will focus on the “Assisting Teaching” occupational specialism:

    • Support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups
    • Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults
    • Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people
    • Recognise, adapt and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with special educational needs and disability (SEND), to support development and access to the curriculum

    Progress to University: You can use the UCAS points you achieve to continue your studies at university.

    Enter Employment: You can use the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained to start working in the Primary/Secondary School industry.

    Apprenticeship: There are many opportunities offered through higher level apprenticeships that allow you to carry on learning.

    Work placements offer an array of advantages as part of your studies, supporting learning into practice. It will develop your skills and understanding of the working environment, enhance your CV for your chosen career or enrich your UCAS application for higher education. We have a team of work placement coordinators to give you the help and advice you need to enable you to find the right places for you.

    The T-level Assisting Teaching course requires you to complete a minimum of 315 hours on placement in a real working environment over your two years of study. Our workplace assessors will visit you whilst you are at work placement to ensure you gain and employ the right practical skills.

    Work alongside industry professionals in your sector in settings such as:

    • St Josephs and St Theresas Primary School
    • St Lukes Primary School
    • Longford Primary School
    • St Marys Primary School
    • Gorse Moore Primary School
  • English and maths

    English, maths, and digital skills are embedded throughout the course content.

    Employability and study skills are taught alongside the core content.

  • Other important information

    All students working with children will need to have a Disclosure and Barring Security Check.

    You will require a uniform for work placement and college, at an additional cost along with educational resources as required.
