  • Is this course for you?

Would you like to learn basic sewing skills or improve your technical abilities? Then this fun and informal course is for you!

Do you browse around charity shops, search Vinted, eBay and Facebook Marketplace for a bargain and would like to learn how to adjust your new or second hand clothing items? Look no further as the focus of this practical sewing course is how to adjust and upcycle existing or newly acquired garments.

This workshop is ideal to develop your confidence and sewing skills.

The first lesson will be an induction into what you will be covering during the course and to discuss your proposed project.

Sewing machines are provided, you just need to provide your own sewing kit.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are required.

  • What skills will I develop?

This sewing course is for the complete beginner, those who would like a refresher, or those who are competent in sewing and would like a boost with their confidence to try more challenging sewing projects.

Completing this course will give you the confidence to try new sewing techniques, master new sewing patterns, and to attempt home furnishing projects.

You will master new skills; inserting zips, designing buttonholes, altering and upcycling clothing, and making basic repairs (holes, rips and other mishaps). Guidance and support is given along the way.

  • Careers

    Opportunities for further learning.

  • English and maths

    Is embedded in the course.

  • Other important information

To participate in this course, it would be useful to have a sewing machine that is in good working condition/order. Even if you are not confident with the machine, help and guidance will be given to show you the workings of a sewing machine.

You will need a good sewing kit, scissors, threads, bobbins for the sewing machine, a selection of needles and needles for the sewing machine, and bobby pins/dressmaking pins. A tape measure and tailors chalk is always useful.

Please do not worry if you do not have all these items. Implementing is part of the techniques, patterns or ideas of projects you wish to accomplish, want advice with or instructions to start. We will discuss the different styles of fabrics as the course progresses.

You have to be aged 19+ to join this course.
