    If you aim to move into a role as a health professional but need a university-level qualification to get there, the Pre-Access Diploma is the perfect first step. Whether you’re considering university but haven’t been in education for a while or need to refresh your skills, we’re here to help you succeed.

    The Pre-Access Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification designed for individuals who want to pursue a career as a health professional but aren’t quite ready for the Access to Higher Education Diploma at Level 3. This course is ideal if you need to:

    • Prepare for higher education after being away from formal study for a while
    • Build the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed for Level 3 academic courses
    • Achieve Level 2 qualifications in maths and English, ensuring you’re ready for university-level study

  • Required qualifications

    Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, you will need to be proficient with the use of ICT to facilitate online learning and assessment.

    If you do not have Level 2 maths and English, you will be expected to study these alongside to ensure you are ready to progress to the full Access to Higher Education course and any meet university requirements.

  • What skills will I develop?

    You will develop knowledge and understanding in a range of health-related subjects including:

    • Understanding Mental Health
    • Nutrition, Performance and Healthy Eating
    • Human Health and Disease
    • Human Physiology

    The course will also cover skills needed to progress to further study including:

    • academic writing and personal study skills
  • Careers

    Successful completion of the Pre Access Diploma alongside achievement of L2 in English and maths will enable you to progress to the Access to HE Diploma (Health Professions).

    This will support you in your next steps towards working as a health professional, including the following careers: Nurse, midwife, paramedic, speech and language therapist.

  • Work experience

    Work experience is not expected whilst on the course but if you are interested in a vocational degree such as nursing then it is beneficial to undertake undertaking some work experience in preparation for eventual progression to University level study.

  • English and maths

    For those without L2 in English and maths (GCSE Grade 4/C or above or Functional Skills Level 2) you will be expected to study for those alongside the Pre Access course.

  • Other important information

    This course is delivered as an online distance learning course.
