  • Is this course for you?

This short programme is ideal as an introduction to the world of PLCs. Automated systems are widely used across various industries, supporting a broad range of operations in different types of production lines. Managing these systems—along with the equipment that supplies inputs to the final product can be highly complex. As a result, both operators and maintenance staff must have an understanding of how these systems function to ensure smooth and efficient operation. This course is designed to give you an introduction to the world of PLCs and basic maintenance and fault finding skills.

  • Required qualifications

There are no formal entry requirements, however it would be advantageous if applicants had some fundamental knowledge of electrical and engineering systems prior to entry.

  • What skills will I develop?

The course provides an overview of PLCs safe working practices, design, operation and simple fault finding. Participants gain hands-on experience with basic testing, fault-finding, software and hardware applications, and safety protocols for both online and offline work. The program includes writing, loading, and running simple PLC programs to build foundational programming skills. Safety practices are emphasised throughout, while improved familiarity with technical terminology enhances communication skills.

  • Careers

The programme would be useful for those in the engineering an electrical industry curious about how automated systems work or for a basic understanding from a supervisory or administrative level.

  • English and maths

Applicants should possess a good working level of maths and English.
