  • Is this course for you?

This short programme is ideal as an introduction to the world of mechatronics, robotics and smart factories. It covers an introduction to three key areas of automation: programmable logic controllers, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems.

  • Required qualifications

There are no formal entry requirements, however it would be advantageous if applicants had some fundamental knowledge of electrical and engineering systems prior to entry.

  • What skills will I develop?

The course provides an overview of mechatronics, covering PLCs, internal operations, electrical circuit drawings, and the principles of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Participants gain hands-on experience with basic testing, fault-finding, software and hardware applications, and safety protocols for both online and offline work. The program includes writing, loading, and running simple PLC programs to build foundational programming skills. Additionally, it enhances understanding of hydraulic components, their functions, and operations, emphasising safe working procedures through practical and theoretical training. Participants also acquire foundational knowledge of pneumatics, reinforced by working on a simple pneumatic system. Safety practices are emphasised throughout, while improved familiarity with technical terminology enhances communication skills.

  • Careers

The programme would be useful for those in the engineering or warehousing industry curious about how automated systems work or for a basic understanding from a supervisory or administrative level.

  • English and maths

Applicants should possess a good working level of maths and English.
