Register your interest now and gain a level 3 qualification. Learners should have a minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience.

We have start dates coming up on Monday 3rd November 2025 and Monday 3rd March 2026.

  • Is this course for you?

If you are currently working as a plumbing or heating engineer and want to gain accreditation through BPEC qualifications to install and commission heat pumps, this is the ideal programme for you. During the intensive bootcamp you will cover heat pump systems, domestic hot water and low temperature heating systems. You will also have the opportunity to gain your Water Regulations qualifications.

  • Required qualifications

Learners should have a minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience.

  • What skills will I develop?

This bootcamp consists of nationally recognised qualification focusing on the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems. It is endorsed by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies, making it an acceptable credential for professionals seeking to join one of the MCS schemes. The course includes two key units covering requirements for sizing, selecting, installing, commissioning, and handing over of heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits), and planning, preparing, installing, commissioning, and maintaining both air source and ground source heat pumps (also non-refrigerant circuits).

The qualification is primarily aimed at practicing plumbers and heating engineers who already possess a solid understanding of central heating systems. It is designed to support those professionals in designing and installing energy-efficient, low-temperature hot water heating systems powered by heat pumps. Additionally, the course content supports compliance with Building Regulations and Standards for the installation of vented and unvented domestic hot water storage systems.

  • Careers

By completing this training, plumbing and heating engineers will demonstrate their competence to either join a Competent Persons’ Scheme — enabling them to self-certify installations — or to notify their local Building Control department prior to starting work.

  • Other important information

Certificates are valid for 5 years. Candidates are eligible for reassessment within 12 months of expiry. Previous certificates must be presented to the assessment centre as evidence of holding the initial qualification. If you choose not to join a Competent Persons scheme you will need to notify the local Building Control.
