Hear from two of our adult students ahead of the colleges first ever adult open event

Date 10/02/2020

The countdown to our first ever adult open event continues, and we recently caught up with two of our adult students who are currently studying the Access to HE Diploma (Health Professionals) course at Tamworth College. We spoke to Natalie Pomeroy and Coral Harvey on what it is like to be an adult student, the fear of getting back into education, the support on offer, how they manage their time on the course around their kids and how they both have university offers for this September!

Natalie said: “I was initially worried about getting back into education after such a long time and my ability to retain new information and keep up with the demands of the course. I needn’t have worried as I feel fully supported by my teachers and have been taught such a lot of really valuable skills and new subject knowledge in such a short space of time. The course fits perfectly around my children and school times and I’ve met some great new friends. I am now half way through my course and have been accepted into my top choice university for September this year and I’m so excited to start. I am loving every minute of my access course and would encourage anyone considering it to do it – it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done”.Coral added: “After having my daughter I decided I wanted a career change but didn’t know how. I found out about the Access course and made the decision to enroll. I was very nervous about going back to education, I didn’t know how I was going to fit it around my children and other commitments. I was also terrified I would be the eldest and not be able to keep up.   However I am now half way through the course. I’m doing really well thanks to the fantastic support of my tutors, and I have a University offer to start this September! My life has completely changed! I am on the way to achieving my dream, I have made some amazing new friends. I feel proud of my achievements and so do my husband and my children”.We would like to say a big thank you to both Natalie and Coral for taking the time to speak to us, and we want to wish them all of the best for the remainder of their time at South Staffordshire College, as well as at university when they start later this year!
