We are Angels Poster

What?

This is an exciting creative opportunity for students to engage with a real time, work experience delivered by Andy Nash – Visual Artist, through a series of Wednesday afternoon workshops.

The initiative is a high profile collaboration between South Staffs College creative students, New Urban Era, Tamworth Borough Council, Tamworth Arts and Events Team and Ankerside Shopping Centre.

Andy Nash We Are Angels

When?

The first Team Angels meeting will take place this Wednesday 7th October at 1.30pm in the C011 Groundfloor lecture theatre.

Following on from this initial meeting and registration, we will be using Art and Design studios to begin the design consultation and ideas sharing, through mind mapping to generate initial design ideas.

Students will then form small groups to ensure safe social distancing and will be assigned selected team leaders, from our year 2, Team Art Attack

Workshops will then continue for approximately 6 weeks, each Wednesday between 1.30 and 4.30.

It is up to each student to ensure that they are logging their own work experience hours on the GroFar website. If you need support for this please contact work ex: natalie.kendall@southstaffs.ac.uk for the link.

How?

Each week we will be designing, refining and creating large scale ‘Angel Wings,’ using a variety of recycled materials. These wings will be installed along an Angel Wing trail, in and around Tamworth town centre and will include a unique, one off, public interactive, exhibition taking place in an empty unit within Ankerside shopping centre.

This will allow for fully inclusive audiences to track the locations, on an ‘Angel tracker map’, enabling participants to seek out and take a selfie in front of each wing set. These angel selfies will then be uploaded to an online gallery, where it is hoped, our Media students will render some of them them as animated gifs.

Why?

Angel wings symbolize love, spirituality, religion and protection, or as a reminder of a guardian angel.

Angel wings are universally recognised symbols and in today’s challenging climate, are often assigned by those who understand and wish to celebrate the importance of random acts of human kindness.

We are looking for artists to design and create a wide range of unique, original and inspirational Angel wings that will be exhibited in the public arena, on the run up to and over the christmas holiday period.
