student throwing exam results in the air

South Staffordshire College is thrilled to announce fantastic success for students collecting level 3 BTEC and Access to Higher Education results this year with many achieving top grades and securing places at top universities.

This academic year has been like no other thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic. It’s thrown important exams into chaos seeing schools and colleges award students’ grades based on work completed to date.

South Staffordshire College is thrilled that 99.3% of its level 3 students estimated course results submitted to awarding bodies were agreed. The remaining 0.7% of students whose results were not agreed by the awarding body were upgraded, one grade higher! This means that no students grades were downgraded as part of the process.

Notable subject area results include: 71% of all level 3 equine learners achieved a distinction star, or distinction grade. 67% of level 3 childcare learners achieved grades A or B. 37% level 3 music students achieved a distinction grade, and 32% level 3 performing arts students achieved a distinction.

Graded results are up by 9% this year when compared to last year’s results day. 4 out of 5 level 3 courses taught at the college had a 100% pass rate. The following courses were just a few which achieved a 100% pass rate: Diploma in Public Services, Diploma in Performing Arts, Extended Diploma in Engineering, Extended Diploma in IT and Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care. Other courses seeing 100% pass rates include Diploma in Horse Management, Diploma in Travel and Tourism, Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity, Technical Diploma in Childcare and Early Years and Advanced Technical Certificate in Land and Wildlife Management.

Speaking on behalf of the college, Kirk Hookham Deputy Chief Executive said “we are immensely proud of our level 3 students achievements and the work of our staff in calculating this year’s grades with such care and diligence that no students level 3 achievements were downgraded at South Staffordshire College.  We wish our students well with their next steps into or towards their chosen careers and our admissions team remain available to support our students in their choices.”

Students completing the Access to Higher Education course have also seen fantastic success this results day with 100% of students passing and many securing places at top universities.

The college would like to offer a special mention to the following students: Abigail Davis who will be taking a place at the University of Warwick to study Biomedical Science and Natalie Pomeroy who has secured a place at Birmingham City University to study Midwifery. Congratulations to Lauren Ball who will be taking a place at Derby University to study Forensic Science with Criminology and Tia Evans who has also secured a place at Derby University to study Youth and Community Work. Congratulations to Jack Burnham who will be going to Loughborough University to study Business Analytics, and Amy Walkerdine who will be studying Fine Art at Liverpool John Moores University.
