  • Is this course for you?

    T-Levels are designed to deliver world-class technical education and provide you with a new choice after GCSEs. The plumbing T-level has been designed with leading businesses and employers in the construction industry and gives you:

    • A thorough understanding of concepts and theories of the plumbing and building services industry.

    • The opportunity to solve real-life problems in the plumbing and building services industry.

    • Valuable experience of learning from the experts through working side by side with those in the building services, plumbing industry in your industry placement so that you have the chance to learn what this career is like in the real world while you continue your studies.

    • Specialist knowledge and skills of plumbing and hydraulic systems engineering.

    Your T-Level will be worth UCAS points – a T-Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A Levels at A* (168 points) – and will be recognized by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.

  • Required qualifications

    You will need 5 GCSEs in the 4-9 range including English and a 5 in maths. You also need a keen interest in the topic.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Year 1 is made up of three key parts:

    Core: Knowledge and understanding of contexts, concepts and theories of the construction industry:
    • Construction and the Built Environment History
    • Sustainability
    • Measurement
    • Building Technology
    • Information and Data
    • Relationship Management
    • Digital Technology
    • Commercial / Business
    • Health and Safety
    • Science
    • Design
    • Legislation, Regulation and Standards
    • Building Services Engineering (BSE) Systems
    • Maintenance Principles
    • Tools, Equipment and Materials
    • English, Maths and digital skills needed in the construction industry
    2. Employer Set Project:
    A project set by construction leaders that requires you to apply your knowledge to a real-life problem in the industry.
    3. Industry Placement:
    Towards the end of the year, you will get the opportunity to put the knowledge and skills you have learned in to action as you start your industry placement. You will work with an external construction industry employer to apply your knowledge and develop your technical skills in a real-life construction workplace.
    Year 2 is made up of two key parts:
    1. You will specialise in Plumbing and Heating engineering. Studying and practicing this branch of the construction industry will help you to develop specialist knowledge and skills.
    2. Continuation of your Industry Placement with an external construction industry employer which will develop your technical skills and apply your knowledge in a workplace environment.

    Across year one and two, you will complete at least 45 days in total working in the construction industry, giving you valuable experience in the workplace and employers the chance to see the new talent in their industry.

  • Careers

    T-Levels offer many opportunities for progression:
    • Progression to University: You can use the UCAS points you achieve as a result of completing your T-level to continue your studies at university.
    • Enter Employment: You can use the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained to start working in the construction industry.
    • Apprenticeship: There are many opportunities offered through apprenticeships that allow you to carry on learning (20%) whilst spending most of your time (80%) furthering your skills in the workplace.
    There are a variety of careers you can pursue once you have completed the course as the knowledge, skills and behaviours you will develop are highly prized within a broad range of businesses.
    This will also open up opportunities to gain an apprenticeship within the Plumbing and heating industry to further develop skills and gain higher level qualifications.

    As part of your T-Level, you will complete an in-depth industry placement with an employer focused on developing your practical and technical skills. The placement will last a minimum of 45 days, but can last longer.
    Your placement will be completed around you course. You will get a valuable experience in the workplace and employers get early sight of the new talent in their industry.
    We will support employers offering industry placements. This will include assistance with paperwork, a careful planning process and support with designing the industry placement.

  • English and maths

    English and maths are embedded within the course. The entry requirements mean there are no formal exams.
