  • Is this course for you?

    Step into care prepares you for working in any care environment, whether in the community or in residential homes.

    The course is particularly suited to learners who are working, or wish to work, in the health and social care and early years sectors.

    If you are interested in working in Health, social care or with children and young people this course will enable you to explore the areas to support you to progress into the vocational areas.

    As part of the course, you will develop the skills towards your chosen career at a Level 1 award in the care sector. You will also develop your interview skills and have the opportunity for an interview with a care provider. This is one of the exciting new sector based academies that South Staffs College offer.

    You don’t need any qualifications, just the ‘hunger’ to get a job and the ‘want’ to learn a new skill

    Whilst at South Staffordshire college, you will be given the opportunity to improve your maths and English skills by continuing to study at GCSE or Functional Skill level. We have a great team working alongside your main course tutors with the skills and knowledge to improve your maths and English skills.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Step into Care you will gain a level one award in the care sector. As art of the course, you will also gain employability skills for you to meet the employer as part of South Staffs College sector based academies within your local area,

    As well as learning about the care industry, you will also gain skills and support such as:

    • One-to-one coaching
    • Personal action plan
    • Confidence building and self-motivation
    • Specific training in the career path you have chosen
    • CV and application letter writing
    • Job search and application form support
    • Managing finances, including Universal Credit
    • Interview techniques
    • Work experience that is linked directly to your career
    • Practical skills and training development in real life social action projects
    • IT and computers skills
    • On-going support after returning to work

    Once you have completed this course you could join our full time provision or gain an apprenticeship or go straight into employment, the STEP UP programme helps you to make the right choice for your future.
