    If you’re passionate about sport and boxing and want to take your skills and knowledge to the next level, this course offers the ideal progression route.

    Delivered by South Staffordshire College in partnership with Tamworth Boxing Club, this programme combines the NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity with the elite DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) boxing pathway. It’s designed for learners who want to continue their academic development while training and competing at a high level.

    You’ll study key topics such as anatomy and physiology, exercise and lifestyle, and preparing for a career in sport. These units will help you understand how the body responds to physical activity, how to support others in leading healthy lifestyles, and how to plan your own progression into employment or higher education.

    Alongside your studies, you’ll train like a high-performance athlete with England Boxing-qualified coaches. You’ll develop your boxing technique, tactical awareness, and physical conditioning, while also gaining valuable experience in leadership and coaching.

    This dual approach allows you to pursue your sporting ambitions without compromising your education. Whether you aim to become a competitive boxer, coach, fitness professional, or progress to further study, this course provides a strong foundation for your future.

    If you’re aged 16–19, affiliated with an England Boxing club, and ready to commit to both your sport and your studies, this course is for you.

  • Required qualifications

    This course will require applicants to have:

    • 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including English or maths
    • Level 2 qualification in a related subject
    • Be affiliated with an England Boxing club
    • Show potential for elite-level boxing performance

    As well as these qualifications, applicants should have a strong interest in sport and demonstrate a commitment to succeed.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Throughout this course, you’ll build a strong foundation in both the theory and practice of sport and physical activity, with a focus on performance, coaching, and personal development.

    You’ll explore key topics such as:

    • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle – understanding how physical activity impacts wellbeing and how to support others in making positive lifestyle changes.
    • Anatomy and Physiology – learning how the body functions and responds to exercise, including the cardiovascular, respiratory, and muscular systems.
    • Career Preparation in Sport – identifying career pathways, developing your CV, and preparing for interviews in the sport and fitness industry.

    Alongside your academic learning, you’ll train as part of the DiSE boxing programme, developing elite-level boxing skills, tactical awareness, and physical conditioning under the guidance of England Boxing-qualified coaches.

    You’ll also gain a wide range of transferable skills, including:

    • Leadership and Coaching – planning and delivering sessions, giving feedback, and supporting others.
    • Communication and Teamwork – working effectively with peers, coaches, and tutors.
    • Organisation and Time Management – balancing training, study, and personal development.
    • Confidence and Independence – taking ownership of your learning and progression.

    This combination of academic study and high-performance training prepares you for a variety of future pathways, including further education, employment in the sport and fitness sector, or progression within competitive boxing.

By combining academic study with elite-level training through the DiSE programme, you’ll be well-prepared to take your next step—whether that’s further education, employment, or continued athletic development.

    • Competitive Boxer – continue training and competing through the DiSE pathway and beyond.
    • Boxing Coach – progress to England Boxing coaching qualifications and support the next generation of athletes.
    • Fitness Instructor – move on to a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing.
    • Personal Trainer – advance to a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training.
    • Sports Coach – develop your coaching skills and work in schools, clubs, or community sport.

  • Work experience

    Whilst on this course, there is no expectation for formal work experience. However, you will gain a wealth of knowledge and insight into the sport and boxing industry through a wide range of enrichment activities. These include guest speakers and industry talks from professionals in sport, fitness, and boxing, as well as trips, visits, and training camps that offer real-world exposure and inspiration. You’ll also have opportunities to take part in coaching workshops, leadership development, and community events, helping you build confidence, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of career pathways in sport. Whether you’re training at Tamworth Boxing Club through the DiSE programme or studying at South Staffordshire College, these experiences are designed to enhance your learning and prepare you for future success in both education and sport.

  • English and maths

    Throughout the duration of the course, you will continue to study maths and/or English as part of your study programme. You will be looking at a range of key skills from spelling and pronunciation of key terminology in anatomy and physiology, to the use of percentages and volumes in fitness training and testing and many more. Putting these at the core of the subjects help to develop a deeper understanding of the subjects and develop wider key skills in education.

  • Other important information

    • Commitment: This is a dual programme combining academic study with elite-level boxing training. You’ll need to manage your time well and be committed to both aspects.
    • Attendance: Regular attendance at both college and boxing sessions is essential to succeed and remain on the programme.
    • Progression: This course is designed to lead into Level 3 qualifications, apprenticeships, or employment. Be prepared to continue your education or training after completion.
    • Support: You’ll have access to tutors, coaches, and mentors to help you balance sport and study, but self-discipline and motivation are key.
