  • Is this course for you?

These qualifications are intended for individuals aiming to acquire, enhance, and apply the skills necessary for employment or career advancement in the electrotechnology field. They serve as a stepping stone towards higher qualifications that lead to becoming a fully certified electrician, such as the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology (2357) or the Level 3 Electrotechnical Apprenticeship Qualification (5357-03). The Level 2 qualification is tailored for newcomers to the industry, equipping them with essential skills and foundational experience.

  • Required qualifications

There are no formal qualifications required, however, you should have a good level of maths and English to be able to complete the electrical science and principles units and interpret complex British Standards and other regulations related to the industry.

  • What skills will I develop?

The qualification encompasses various aspects of electrotechnical technology, including units on electrical science principles, electrical installation technology, and health and safety in Building Services Engineering. There will also be practical installation elements that run alongside the theory qualifications, including fundamentals of circuit design, terminations and fabrication.

Assessment for candidates will be conducted through on-demand multiple-choice tests (accessible via the City & Guilds assessment platform, e-volve) and practical assignments.

  • Careers

Successful candidates could move to complete a NVQ Level 3 qualification and AM2 qualification to gain them an ECS card and registered electrician status with the JIB.

  • English and maths

You will need a good level of English to complete the portfolio of evidence required. You may have a short diagnostic prior to the start of the programme to establish your level if you do not hold a qualification.

  • Other important information

This qualification is a component to becoming a fully qualified electrician but is not the only element. Please refer to the Electrotechnical Assessment Scheme for more information.
