Application guide for school leavers

Here’s how to apply for September 2027

Step 1: Visit our website and complete an online application form for the course that you are interested in. Each application will receive an email acknowledgement so that you know it has been received.

Step 2: After you have submitted your application, one of our friendly Learner Services team will contact you by email to confirm either a face-to-face or telephone interview (IAG session), depending on your chosen course, so please check your emails regularly – including your junk/spam.
- Please note: some interviews take place during our Open Days, so if you are invited to attend on a Saturday that will be during an Open Event. Our courses fill up fast, so it is important you attend to secure your place.
- During your interview our teaching staff will talk through your career aspirations, predicted grades, and whether you require any additional support. This just helps us to make sure you have applied for the right course to support your needs so you can achieve your future career goals.
- To assist you with remembering the date and time of your interview you will receive a call from one of the Learner Services team the day before, as well as a text reminder on the day.
Step 3: If the course is suitable for your requirements, you will be given a verbal offer. If you agree to this verbal offer, you will receive a follow-up confirmation email asking you to confirm the offer by clicking on a link in the email. By doing this, it secures your place at the college, so please try and respond as soon as possible as places fill up quickly.

Step 4 (optional): Come along to one of our Taster Days in February 2027. This is particularly helpful if you are not sure which course is right for you or you are choosing between a couple of subject areas.

Step 5: We’ll invite you to join a Student Experience Day on 28th or 29th June 2027. You’ll get to spend a day at college with other applicants, experience your course area and meet your tutor. Invitations will be sent out from April 2027.

Step 6: Next up we’ll ask you to complete a pre-enrolment form which forms the first stage of the enrolment process. This is an online form and we’ll ask you to digitally sign a learning agreement. This information will be sent to you via email during July 2027.
- Please note: the photo will be used for your college ID badge so you will need to be professional, which means the photo should be of you and only you. Please do not include objects, pets, etc. and avoid busy backgrounds. Just keep it simple.
Step 7: The second stage of the enrolment process requires you to come into college. From the end of July 2027 onwards you’ll receive an appointment to attend the college where your course is based. Sometimes this email can land in your junk/spam folder, so please check there if you haven’t received it. If you have any concerns regarding your enrolment, please email enrolments@southstaffs.ac.uk

Coming to enrol will give you the opportunity to meet some of the teaching staff face-to-face who will confirm your course level and answer any questions that you may have. You will also speak to the maths and English team and Learning Support, if required. Please note: If you haven’t done as well as you expected please don’t worry, there will be several options available for you to consider. Our teaching staff will discuss these options with you.

The final part of the enrolment process is with our Learner Services team who will check all your details, retake your photo if the uploaded one isn’t suitable (as detailed above) and complete your enrolment to secure your place.

Please make sure that you don’t miss this final stage as without it your course place isn’t secure and could be given to someone else.

The enrolment process in most cases takes about between one and two hours but it can be longer if you need to see the Learning Support and/or maths and English team.

Step 8: Your next step is to attend your induction day, where you’ll receive your timetable, collect your ID badge, and get everything you need to start your college journey with us as a South Staffordshire College learner!
