Student Activities

We aim to listen to learners’ feedback from every course area at every campus and instigate changes to improve things for all learners by building on our strengths and promoting good practice.

We do this by running several learner and stakeholder surveys, learner voice forums with appointed course reps, digital champions and student governors to discuss issues, concerns, compliments and suggestions.

We are always keen to hear what learners have to say about their course and college experience.

  • Become a Course Rep

    Do you want to stand out from the crowd and make yourself more attractive to prospective employers? Then why not become a Course Rep? It looks great on your CV, you learn a range of new skills, essential for everyday-life and key skills which will help to improve your chances of securing future employment. Skills such as improved organisational, listening, and communication skills, minute-taking, researching, referencing and networking skills, developing resilience, debating skills and learning how to manage workloads.

    You will make new friends and learn how to develop healthy working relationships with staff, your peers and learners from other courses and campus, who you might not otherwise have the opportunity to meet. All training and support are provided.

  • Become a Digital Champion

    Do you have a natural curiosity or flare for computers and digital technology? If you are keen, conscientious and want to develop your skills in this fast-growing area, we would love you to join our Team of Digital Champions, led by Steve Wileman Digital Lead Technologist.

    Digital Champions report to the college Digital Learning Technologists and work closely with teaching staff and students. They help develop the digital skills of college students and staff and they find out what they require from digital technologies, and why. They are expected to promote the College’s Digital Agenda, become involved with college digital projects and attend/contribute to the College’s Learner Voice and Digital Steering Group meetings.

    Each campus has a designated Digital Learning Technologist, who Digital Champions report to. Training and support are ongoing throughout the academic year.

  • Student Governor

    The governing body is made up of 18 people from all walks of life, including volunteers from the local community and local businesses. This also includes the Chief Executive and Principal (Claire Boliver), two staff members and two student members. All governors are Charity Trustees.

    Operational responsibility is delegated to Claire Boliver, the Chief Executive and Principal and members of the Executive Leadership Team.

    The governing body meets at least 8 times per year (twice per term) and meetings usually commence at 9am. Student Governors are also invited to attend the Quality Improvement Group which meets 3 times per year (once per term).

    Note: Students are appointed as governors for the duration of their enrolment as a student of South Staffordshire College.

    Estimated time commitment required: a minimum of 4 hours per month.

    Interested in becoming a Student Governor?

    Are you a sensible and mature-minded learner, who is organised and confident in communicating with people from a range of backgrounds, with a keen interest in business and problem solving and looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity? Then why not consider applying to become a Student Governor? You do not need to be a student representative to apply for the role of student governor.   • Campus Council Rep

    Any learner who is already a Course Rep, Digital Champion or Student Governor at SSC, who is passionate about succeeding and helping others to succeed, can apply to be a Campus Council Rep. There are 4 positions currently available at each of our 5 sites. The duration of the role is 12 months.

    Campus Council Reps will focus specifically on campus related issues which directly affect learners and staff who are based there.

    By attending regular termly meetings, Reps will have the opportunity to meet new people/make new friends and to meet the College’s key decision makers, to have their say and make the College a better place by helping their campus to reach its full potential.

    In addition to the requirement to attend the 3 Learner Voice Forums they will also be required to attend 6 Campus Council meetings throughout the year.

    The Learner Voice Team is made up of 6 key staff who each have responsibility for ensuring the Learner Voice is captured through various job roles; this includes: Management, Co-ordinators, Support, Induction and Training, Survey and chairing various Learner Voice forums, observing teaching & learning, and assessment via learning walks.
