  • Is this course for you?

    This course is ideal for learners who wish to prepare for parenting and develop their understanding of well-being through pregnancy and planning for a positive birth experience.

    This is a free five-week course.

    The topics include:

    • Explore a scope of knowledge and understanding through pregnancy
    • Early stages of labour and birth
    • Planning and preparing for your baby
    • What skills you will find useful
    • Strategies to look after yourself
  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are required just an enthusiasm for the subject.

  • What skills will I develop?

    By attending this course, you will learn how to plan for a positive birth experience, what to expect and how to plan your hospital stay and what essentials to take in your hospital bag.

    Helping yourself and supporting you through the early stages of labour and birth stages and what happens when you meet your baby for the first time. We will be looking at relaxation techniques, knowing what makes you feel good and keeps you well through pregnancy and the early weeks after birth. And how to cope with a lack of sleep.

    Looking after your physical and mental well-being is essential; if we are content, your baby will be content. How relationships may change and adjusting to life with baby. What sources of support are there for you.

    Other areas of study will include exploring your baby’s journey from womb to birth, what are your baby’s cues, sleep patterns, wake times, feeding and rest. Good strategies for happy feeding times, bathing and calming baby.

  • Careers

    At the end of the course, you will have the opportunity for further study on the distance learning Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Neuroscience in the Early Years.

  • English and maths

    You should have good English and literacy skills to enable you to complete this course, although you are not formally assessed on this as part of the course.

    The course will be held at Charnwood Children’s Centre, 101 Purcell Ave, Lichfield, WS13 7PH.
