    This qualification is aimed at anyone seeking to improve their understanding and awareness of suicide and self-harm. The knowledge individuals will gain is not sector-specific but can be applied to a broad range of personal and professional situations.

    Individuals who may find this course useful to their professional life include: teachers, mental health workers, crisis helpline volunteers, support workers, individuals in a safeguarding role, parents or guardians, and others working with individuals who may be at increased risk of self-harm or suicide.

    Our distance learning courses are an ideal opportunity to enhance your career prospects.  You will receive all the necessary materials to complete the course in the comfort of your own home. You will be given 1:1  support as you work your way through each of the unit from subject specific professionals.

    This course is available ‘fully online’ only.

  • Required qualifications

    There are no formal entry requirements, however, a good level of literacy is required in order to complete these qualifications – reading, writing and comprehension, as these are knowledge-based qualifications.

    You need to be able to understand what you have read within the learning materials and answer the assessment questions in your own words and in full sentences.

  • What skills will I develop?

    This course is comprised of four units:

    • Introduction to suicide and self-harm awareness
    • Recognising the signs of suicide and self-harm in individuals
    • The principles of suicide and self-harm prevention
    • Support for individuals when dealing with grief after suicide.

    South Staffordshire College offers a range of level 2 distance learning courses in the ‘wellbeing sector’ which may be of interest on completion of this qualification.

    This course would be a useful addition to the CV of any learner looking to create a career pathway within the mental health care sector.

  • English and maths

    You should have a good level of English to complete the course. However, English and Maths is not formally assessed as part of your course.
