  • Is this course for you?

    This course is ideal for learners who wish to develop their understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals to live healthy and fulfilled lives.
    The topics included, explore a scope of knowledge and understanding, for those who wish to develop own skill set in supporting individuals with Autism, in any environment, be it at home, in the workplace, or in schools.

  • Required qualifications

    No formal qualifications are required just an enthusiasm for the subject.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Autism is a condition which presents itself as a wide spectrum of disorders, and currently affect about 1% of the UK population. People who have autistic spectrum disorders can be affected differently, with cases ranging from mild to severe.

    Throughout this course, you will gain an understanding of the spectrum of autistic disorders and how they can affect people in a variety of ways, as well as exploring the importance of appropriate communication skills and positive behaviour to encourage individuals with autistic spectrum conditions to live fulfilling and independent lives.

    The course is split into topics: Introduction to Autism, appropriate communication and social interaction in individuals with autism. Develop an understanding of sensory processing, perception and cognition in individuals with autism. And how to support positive behaviour in individuals with autism.

  • Careers

    At the end of the course, you will have the opportunity for further study on the Distance Learning Level 2 certificate, in Understanding the Principles of Autism.

  • English and maths

    You should have good English and Literacy skills to enable you to complete this course, although you are not formally assessed on this as part of the course.
