Information Communication Technician Apprenticeship – Level 3

  • Course aim

    The role of the ICT occupation is to deliver efficient operation and control of the IT and/or Telecommunications infrastructure (comprising physical or virtual hardware, software, network services and data storage) either on-premises or to end-users provisioned as cloud services that is required to deliver and support the information systems needs of an organisation.

    Which job roles is this Apprenticeship suitable for?

    1st & 2nd line support telecoms technician, Data centre support technician, It support officer, Cloud technician, First-line support, Maintenance support technician, Telecommunications technician, Communications technician, Help desk support It field technician, Network field operative, Cyber/security support, It support analyst, Network support, Office IT technician.

    The Information Communications Technician makes their contribution through the application of infrastructure management tools to automate the provisioning, testing, deployment and monitoring of infrastructure components.

  • Course content

    The apprentice will study the core knowledge, skills and behaviours as laid out in the apprenticeship plan. Depending upon their job role the apprentice will take one of the following options to specialise in one of the following areas:

    • Support Duties
    • Network Technician Duties
    • Communication Technician Duties

    What qualification will I get? Information Communication Technician Level 3

    Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.

    You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job but we can assist you in finding a placement.

  • Course assessment

    Apprentices are required to attend college once a week, the rest of the training will take place in the workplace with in-house training by the employer. Our IT assessor will visit and observe the apprentice in practice.

    • Knowledge – Apprentices attend college based classes and are able to access the college’s online learning environment where specially prepared learning materials are available 24/7.
    • Skills and Behaviours – This development will be led by the employer in the workplace. College Assessors will visit the workplace to observer the apprentice undertaking their normal on-the-job duties, and complete reviews to make sure the apprentice is staying on track with their work. In conjunction with the employer and the apprentice, the Assessor will develop an action plan to show what knowledge units are being studied, what evidence needs to be prepared and supported ahead of the next Assessor visit.
    • Functional Skills – Individuals without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

  • Fees

    If you have less than 50 staff and the apprentice is between 16-18 then the apprenticeship will be fully funded, you will only need to pay for the apprentice’s wages.

    If you choose to recruit an apprentice who is 19 or above, you will be required to pay 5% of the cost of the apprenticeship (the government will fund 95%) If you are a large employer with 50+ staff, you will be required to fund 5% of the apprenticeship costs regardless of the age of the learner.
